This is the description of the story from Deaver’s official page:
Detective Lincoln Rhyme, the foremost criminalist in the NYPD, is put on the trail of the Coffin Dancer, a cunning professional killer who has continually eluded the police. Rhymes —-a quadriplegic since a line-of-duty accident — must use his wits to track this brilliant killer who’s been hired to eliminate three witnesses in the last hours before their grand jury testimony. Rhyme works with his eyes and ears, New York City cop Amelia Sachs, to gather information from trace evidence at the crime scene to nail him, or at least to predict his next move and head him off.
So far, they have only one clue: the assassin has a tattoo on his arm of the Grim Reaper waltzing with a woman in front of a coffin.
I found this book when I was going through my grandfather’s library. At first, I was skeptical about the book at it was quite old (it was written in 1998) but when I read what it is about, I decided to give it a try as I like detective stories. Also, the description was saying that the book is a sequel of the book The Bone Collector. I haven’t read the book but I saw the movie with Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington and I loved it. So I was curious about how the story would continue.
As I never read any book from this author, I was curious about his style of writing and I have to say the book caught me from the very beginning as it is fast paced, intense and full of unexpected twists. When you think you found some answer or clue of something, you soon find out that you were completely wrong. Also, he is very good with describing feelings of various characters and so you feel almost like being them.
I have to say that I finished this book in three days as I couldn’t stop reading. I think I just found my new favorite author. I give this book the rating 9/10.
