Details about the movie on IMDB

I was really thinking long about what to write about this movie. At the beginning, I didn’t know what the movie was about but I saw Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt were in it, who are both my favorite actors, so I decided to give it a shot. At the beginning, it was a bit boring, with a weird camera, full of finance and stock exchange terms I didn’t understand, and so I was asking myself if I should stop watching it. But somehow I couldn’t. It was getting more and more interesting and then I finally realized what the movie was about and got curious and excited about it.

The movie is based on a true story and actually is explaining the events that led to the financial crisis in 2008. Being based on a true story can mean anything between 1-99% but even if half of it was true, it is unbelievable that anything like this could happen and have those terrible consequences we know it had.

The story is about a few people who started to investigate deeper the loans in USA few years before the crisis actually happened. They were not sure if they were right as what they found was too unbelievable. So they started to investigate it, each of them on a different level of depth, but at the end all of them decided to earn money on it.

The movie is great in giving an insight into the situation before the crisis and explains what actually caused it and how it happened. What was a bit hard for someone who doesn’t understand finances and stock exchange market in depth, like me, was to follow all the expressions and processes that were happening there. They tried to explain few terms in “stock exchange for dummies” funny way, but still it wasn’t enough for me. Anyway, even despite of this detail, I think it was a great movie and definitely worth watching to get the “behind the scene” view on the crisis.

As of the actors, one thing for me personally was a big surprise in a good way. It was the character of Mark Baum, who was played by Steve Carell. I have this actor in my head in the category of comedians, and will always remember him as the mumbling weather forecaster in Bruce Almighty, but in this movie, he had a serious role, one of the main characters and he played it excellent. Also Christian Bale, who had a role of a bit out of his mind finance expert Michael Burry, was great. Generally, I liked everyone’s performance in this movie.

My rating for this movie is 7/10.
